January 2006 Guess the Fish Contest Answer & Winner
This months fish is a Queen Triggerfish (Balistes vetula). The queen triggerfish is easily seperated from other Atlantic species by the long filaments from the tail and front of the soft dorsal fin and by its color.
The queen triggerfish is broadly distributed in the Atlantic from Brazil to Florida, straying north to Massachusetts. It is common in the West Indies and is recorded from Bermuda, the Azores, and Asecsion Island.
Where abundant or chummed for, the queen triggerfish will strike almost any artificial lure, including jigs and plugs. A strong gamefish, it makes determined runs to the bottom using its braod body to advantage. Despite its coarse skin and odd apperance it is a fine foodfish. The flesh is firm and white and is often compared to frog legs in texture. But the tough skin must be removed.

This months winner is Dan Kleuskens from Cape May Court House, NJ.
